If you are looking for a great idea to start a business, why not consider constructing custom jewelry for individual clients if you have the necessary skills and talents plus a great sense of style and creativity. Customers will soon flood you with phone calls if you do a good job, requesting you to create special pieces for them or as gifts. If you have a sense of style and creativity you can easily make custom jewelry if you are willing to acquire the skills needed to make jewelry, which are easy to learn. The pieces that you designed and constructed must be exclusive so that when your client wears them, they know that they are wearing something that no one else wears in the whole world.

The hardest part in working with clients is to design something that they have in their minds which may be different from what you have in yours. Never allow your client to observe you working and show them that it is easy for them to do it themselves because you will probably lose their custom. The only way to know what custom jewelry design that will match their style and the type of person of your clients are is to talk to them at length. To design a gift piece meant for another person, it would be wise to discuss and get to know a lot about the other person first. While uniqueness and exclusivity are the keys to making this type of business successful, speaking regularly with your clients is vitally important too.

From time to time clients may ask you to make custom jewelry using parts from their own jewelry. Your job may just be to beautify a piece that your clients currently own. Before you start doing this, make sure that you have the skill and qualifications necessary to do this work because the last thing you want is destroy a client’s beloved jewelry! In order to do a good job of improving the piece, find out all you can about the piece and if it has any special meaning to the client.

You will be purchasing the pieces you need to make the custom jewelry from wholesale sources. Make sure you are buying quality parts especially from sources of unique jewelry making supplies - imported pieces are great sources although you will have to quote your client a price in advance. Since surely you do not want to lose money, once you have quoted a price, allow up to thirty percent to be deducted from it. After deducting 15 to 30 percent, use the remainder as your ‘budget’ when buying supplies to make the custom jewelry.
